В отличие от него нижеследующие глаголы, сохраняя общее значение глагола to examine - "рассматривать что-либо, подвергать что-либо рассмотрению", содержат разные семантические компоненты, которых нет в глаголе to examine, или не имеют тех, которые есть в глаголе to examine, так, например, глагол to look at не предусматривает ни тщательности рассмотрения, ни цели решения рассмотренного вопроса.
